Newly appointed Head Coach for professional club Oakland Roots S.C. started his journey 10 years ago in Germany with IFX Soccer

Over the years, we at IFX have witnessed the beginning of many footballers' careers and have been blessed to develop and strengthen the ties of friendship throughout the years. We are very pleased with both the sporting and personal successes that our players have achieved in their life and we are happy to share with our community their stories in a way this encourages others to continue their own path to achieve success.

Exactly 10 years ago, a talented defender would start his path to build up a career in soccer. Jordan Ferrell, at that time 22 years old, joined our Pro 30 Day Germany program where we provided him with trials on various German soccer clubs in the Bayern region. His good performance during the tryouts arranged by IFX earned him the possibility to sign first, with Bayernliga club SpVgg Ansbach (2009/10 season), and then to go on the following season to wear the SG Quelle Fürth jersey for the 2010/11 season, a German soccer club of renowned prestige for being a serious feeder of high quality players for professional clubs in the area.

In 2010 German soccer went through a process to become the world's most successful soccer factory and we could say that all the investment in youth soccer was crucial to lifting the 2014 World Cup trophy at the Maracana. In Jordan's own words, even he didn't know he would go into a career in coaching. He enjoyed spending time before practices watching youth division training sessions and exchanging ideas with coaches in Germany, and all of their cognitive process, stuck with him, clearly reflected in his style.

These and other insights of the current Head Coach of the professional NISA club Oakland Roots S.C. during his time in Germany as a player as well his beginnings as a coach in USA, can viewed in the following interview.

Interview with Jordan Ferrell

Coach Ferrell highlighted the importance of having more and more youth players under 19 years old playing in high leagues. Nowadays, there are many U23 players playing in Europe and that is very promising for USA as a country. In the local competition, we need coaches at the professional level who know how to put 17-18 y/o talented players on the field.

Jordan Ferrell (32) served as Roots’ top assistant coach in 2019. He has over nine years of coaching experience at both the professional and amateur levels. Ferrell is also the former head coach of MLS-bound Sacramento Republic’s U-17 and U-19 Academy teams. He spent three seasons as a top assistant with University of the Pacific, where he helped put together several impressive recruiting classes as the Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament in 2017. Ferrell also spent two years as head coach of San Joaquin Delta College. His playing career included four years as a defender for Cal State East Bay in Hayward from 2005-08.

We from IFX Soccer want to thank Coach Ferrell for his time and for sharing his memories and plans with us. We wish him the best of luck in this new stage of his soccer career and great success.
